About This Novel

In Shanghai in the 1940s, two major Jianghu gangs were entrenched - the Qing Gang, which controlled the French Concession, and the Tiansheng Gang, whose sphere of influence was in the British and American Public Concessions. In order to help the Japanese infiltrate the public concession, Zhang Xiaolin, the leader of the Youth Gang who became a traitor, murdered Huang Futian, the leader of the Tiansheng Gang. Huangfutian's daughter Wang Yili originally had a deep grudge against her father, but after learning the truth, she decided to join the revenge operation. Because the traitor betrayed her and her revenge failed, Wang Yili was rescued by New Fourth Army intelligence officers and taken to the base area where she grew into a conscious nationalist fighter. After being elected as the new president of the Tiansheng Gang, Wang Yili held high the anti-Japanese banner, arousing extreme hatred from the Japanese invaders who used a traitor to trap her.
