About This Novel

Let's start with the name of the village. The village where I was born is called Benwuzhuang, located in Huang'an County at the foot of the Dabie Mountains. Although Huang'an County is now known as Hong'an County and has become the cradle of generals in people's eyes, Wuzhuang is like the village and town that everyone remembers where they grew up. It is scattered in the vast mountains and valleys of China and looks dispensable. If it weren't for the lingering smoke from cooking fires and the mooing of cows all year round, it's possible that this village would be like a wild dog with no one raising it, lonely and endless when it was alive, and no one would care about it after it died. Strictly speaking, Benwuzhuang is not a small town because it is relatively small and deep in the valley. The first idiom I learned when I grew up was called "The door faces the green mountains", and I felt it was prepared for this village.
