About This Novel

Professor Yang Wuneng, a famous translator in my country and winner of the Nobel Prize in Chinese Translation - the "Goethe Gold Medal", has been to Germany for further study, research, and lectures since 1982. He has personally experienced the development of Germany, is familiar with German literature, history, and natural scenery, and has his own unique understanding of it. Professor Yang Wuneng used a humanistic touch to describe Germany's mysterious castles, dense forests, flowing rivers, towering churches and oil painting-like buildings, as well as German festivals, city construction, attention to environmental protection, emphasis on education and history, and portraits of German people's lives. He witnessed and personally experienced the contrast and changes between the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of the two Germanys. It describes the estrangement caused by the political structure of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Democratic Republic of Germany, the various conditions before the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the people's mentality after the reunification of the two Germanys. The book reads like a living German history.
