Chaos Butterfly
by Liu Cixin
About This Novel
This book is a short science fiction novel with the theme of the butterfly effect of chaos theory and the background of the war against Yugoslavia launched by the United States-led NATO in 1999. Modern research on chaos makes people gradually understand that very simple mathematical equations can completely simulate the violent behavior of a system like a waterfall. Small differences at the input can quickly amplify into overwhelming differences at the output. This phenomenon is called "sensitivity to initial conditions." In weather systems, for example, this phenomenon is known colloquially as the "butterfly effect." This means that a butterfly flapping the air in Beijing today is enough to cause a heavy rain in New York.
