This volume includes three sub-collections: "New and Old", "Housewife Collection" and "Long River". "New and Old" is a collection of Shen Congwen's novellas, first published by Shanghai Liangyou Book Printing Company in 1936. It embodies the changes in the new era and the imprint of the old era in the mysterious and bloody world of western Hunan. Through a heavy story, it shows a divergent era in which the old and the new intersect.
