About This Novel
When the Spanish Civil War broke out in 1936, Orwell came to Catalonia and joined the Spanish Marxist United Workers' Party militia that opposed Franco's regime. He stayed on the front line for nearly six months until he was shot by a sniper and had to return home to recuperate. Based on this experience, he objectively demonstrated the hardships of the war, the enthusiasm of the people, the changes in the situation, and the distortion of the media in the calm language of black and white film. He described his understanding of the war, analyzed the appearance and essence of the war, and exposed the lies about the civil war.
