Escape the Death Zone
About This Novel
I was six years old when I was trapped in Changchun. My family lives on the edge of the city, not far away from a railway that never sees trains. Opposite the railway is a patch of willow trees. Through the willow trees is an old Taoist temple. There is a hole at the root of the wall behind the temple. A stream of clear spring water flows out from the hole, forming a small stream that is not wide. It goes around the small temple and flows into the large meadow behind the temple. Six months ago, my mother took me to the temple to "jump over the wall". It's really interesting. The old man with a white beard in the temple accepted the red rooster with the big crest that I brought, shaved my head, leaving only a small bunch of "old hair" on the back of my head, and then asked me to stand on a small bench. He muttered for a while, hit me on the head with a red chopstick, and asked me to jump off the bench and run out of the temple without looking back. Even if I passed the "test", I would never get sick again.
