About This Novel
Voss the Explorer is an epic masterpiece created by Patrick White based on the experiences of the legendary explorer Ludwig Reichhardt. The protagonist Voss, who is based on Leichhardt, is stubborn, gloomy and unkempt. His plan to explore the Australian outback is funded by the wealthy businessman Mr. Bonnner. While visiting Mr. Bonnner, Voss meets Miss Laura. Laura's parents died when she was young, and she was adopted by her aunt, Mrs. Bonner. She is a unique woman, rational and withdrawn. She and Voss were attracted to each other and exchanged letters with Voss after the expedition set off. But soon, as the expedition went deep into the interior, the two lost contact and could only talk to each other in each other's dreams and fantasies. For Voss, this is not only an adventure to find the secrets and wealth of the outback, but also a pilgrimage that goes deep into human nature and soul. In the magnificent and severe nature, the expedition team went through hardships and challenges, and gradually collapsed. Only the phantom Laura supported Voss towards the end of his life.
