About This Novel

When the weather is a little better, I will work in front of the car shop. There is a pergola outside the door, and the reeds on the top have been partly corroded by the rain, and partly blown away by the wind. They are much sparser than last year. The dappled sunlight shines through, giving off a friendly and old feeling like washed and faded old cotton clothes. I like this kind of working environment. The new man with a broken leg who lives next door is a few years older than me, at least in his early thirties. He always squats silently in the corner of the pergola, watching me repair my bicycle without saying a word or moving. The disabled child he brought who looked exactly like him squatted stupidly in front of their house, staring at the cars and pedestrians on the road. He didn't move once for a long time. He was obviously a fool. If the sun was brighter, he would pull up a soft cushion, sit down and lift up his trousers, exposing his two paraffin legs as if to reveal a secret.
