About This Novel
"The Course of Misery" is a famous work by the great Russian writer Tolstoy. The book is based on major historical events from World War I in 1914 to the Russian Civil War in 1919. Through the description of the complicated love and difficult and tortuous life experiences of the two sisters Katya and Dasha and their husbands: Roshen, a White Army officer with aristocratic origin, and Telekin, a Red Army officer and engineer with civilian origin, the book depicts the painful journey of Russian intellectuals from the loss of old Russia to the rebirth of Soviet Russia.
