This book is Hunter S. Thompson's debut novel. It describes an aspiring journalist who gradually sinks and gets lost in the alcohol and idleness of the Caribbean. Finally, he leaves the Caribbean with a broken American dream and endless regrets. The book was published thirty years later and won multiple book awards in the United States. The film of the same name, starring Hunter Thompson's protégé Johnny Depp, is currently being screened in Europe and the United States and is a popular candidate for the 2012 Oscars.
