This is a historical novel based on the life story of Chen Yuanyuan in the Ming Dynasty. The novel uses the emotional entanglements between Chen Yuanyuan and Zou Shu, Wu Sangui and Li Zicheng as clues to describe Chen Yuanyuan's desolate life experience when her "dream of a talented scholar and beauty" and her "dream of a heroic beauty" were shattered successively; it shows a mirror image of a country that is about to collapse in the late Ming Dynasty; it reflects the despicableness of high-ranking officials and the decline of small people when the world is falling apart. The novel has simple text, delicate description, vivid plot, and strong readability. It is an excellent work that reflects the history and characters before and after the Jiashen Incident in the late Ming Dynasty.
