About This Novel

Zizhi Tongjian is the first chronological general history of China. It started from the 23rd year of King Weilie of Zhou Dynasty to the sixth year of Xiande of Later Zhou Dynasty, for a total of 1362 years. There are 294 volumes and more than 3.25 Million words (about 6 million words in the Hu's annotated version). The whole book is divided into sixteen "volumes" according to dynasty, namely: five volumes of the Zhou Chronicle, three volumes of the Qin Chronicle, sixty volumes of the Han Chronicle, ten volumes of the Wei Chronicle, forty volumes of the Jin Chronicle, sixteen volumes of the Song Chronicle, ten volumes of the Qi Chronicle, twenty-two volumes of the Liang Chronicle, ten volumes of the Chen Chronicle, eight volumes of the Sui Chronicle, eighty-one volumes of the Tang Chronicle, six volumes of the Later Liang Chronicle, eight volumes of the Later Tang Chronicle, six volumes of the Later Jin Chronicle, four volumes of the Later Han Chronicle, and five volumes of the Later Zhou Chronicle.
