About This Novel
"The Vanity of Duroz" is the last semi-autobiographical novel written by Jack Kerouac during his lifetime. It records the life of young Kerouac (Duluoz) in Lowell and New York from 1935 to 1946, as well as his second worldly experience. It tells the story of his adventures in merchant ships, naval bases, prisons and other places during the World War, and embodies Kerouac, who was born in a poor family, and his unflinching fighting spirit in his youth as well as his unruly personality of not compromising the secular world and yearning for freedom.
