This book is a long science fiction allegorical novel by Lao She published in the year after the September 18th Incident. It uses the absurd cat city on Mars to metaphorize the suffering and absurdity of China at that time. The Cat Country is an ancient country on Mars with a long history. Its citizens feed on the mythical leaves that are both satiating and hallucinogenic. Their residences are dirty and their laws are absurd. They are suspicious, lazy, selfish, indifferent to life, regard foreigners as gods, and spend their time in confusion all day long. Suddenly, war breaks out, and groups of cat people compete to surrender, only to be slaughtered, and the former prosperity turns into nothingness.
