About This Novel
It's freezing cold outside. Last month was the coldest on record and now the bone-chilling cold is showing signs of easing. Ice and snow dominated the scene outside and the only road leading to the house, which crossed a crumbling wooden bridge. During the day, when the bright sun hangs in the clear sky, melted snow drips from the eaves and freezes into large and small icicles under the eaves. Yesterday, there were seven large icicles hanging outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of Robert Blackmer's private study that opened to the courtyard. Now there are only five.
