About This Novel
Olga is the daughter of the forest guard Skvortsov. She is 19 years old, beautiful and natural, full of vitality, cheerful and unrestrained by nature. Due to poverty and longing for the so-called "upper class" life, she married the earl's housekeeper Urbenin. Urbenin is a 50-year-old widowed man with two children. Kamyshev, the interrogator who came to the Count's house as a guest, was very dissatisfied with this marriage. Due to his intrusion, Olga's feelings soon tended towards the young interrogator, and she became his lover. Soon, the count, who was fascinated by Olga's beauty, also used his status and wealth to pursue Olga. As a result, Olga fell into the hunting net of three men: her husband, the earl, and the interrogator. In the end, Olga was murdered inexplicably while being chased and intercepted by three men. The court convicted the housekeeper Urbenin as the murderer, but the real murderer was at large. He was the investigating officer Kamyshev. As Olga's original lover, Kamyshev saw that Olga had become the count's mistress again, so he killed her out of jealousy. He also used his advantageous position as an interrogator to deliberately create an unjust case. For this purpose, he also killed the insider, the servant Kuzma.
