About This Novel

Starting in the mid-1980s, Yang Mu continued to write three "Qi Lai Qi Shu" within ten years, focusing on his youth as a narrative reflection. In a sense, it also represented the end of that distant stage. After that, Yang Mu consciously started a new piece of writing, which was completed by Yi Liuhanshu before and after, namely "Qilai Hou Shu". "The Second Book of Qi Lai" is chronologically connected to the structure of "The First Book of Qi Lai" and also implies the flavor of literary autobiography. However, it was written after Yang Mu turned eighteen. He bid farewell to his teenage years, the mountains and oceans of his hometown of Hualien, and used his adult college years as the theme of exploration - Donghai, Iowa, Berkeley, Washington, Donghua and other universities... He was exposed to various human and intellectual environments, and felt the beliefs and doubts of academia, ethics, and religion. Even as his brushwork is repeated and literary genres cross boundaries, he still sticks to the theme of "poetry" and his persistence in poetry remains unchanged, pursuing the eternity of love and beauty amidst the ups and downs.
