About This Novel
Three generations of the Thorne family have been haunted by a curse. At the end of the 19th century, there was a weird and lonely member of the second generation of the Thorne family. He studied prophecy in his study all day long, and eventually died of heart spasm. The strangest thing was that the carpet in front of the fireplace in the room of the deceased was wet. On his deathbed, he made a terrible prophecy: You will be burned to death. Soon after, almost all members of the family were killed in a fire! After that, the unknown study became known as the "madman's room" and was permanently closed. In the 1930s, the third-generation patriarch of the family decided to reopen this room as a study, despite his brother's objections. One night a few months later, the patriarch's wife fainted from fright at the door of the room. The room was empty except for the carpet in front of the fireplace that was soaked with water again. A few minutes later, the team leader's body was found on the gravel road downstairs in the room. The cause of death was a fall from a height, and the death time had been more than half an hour. When the lady woke up, she said she didn't remember anything. However, everything was not over yet. A year later, the prophecy of death came again, this time the target was Madam...

The second mystery novel by Paul Holt, this one is good, better than Phantom Alley, and very suspenseful. Maybe you can vaguely guess the murderer from Dr. Twist's words! Everything seems to be in the dark again... There are other novels by Paul Holt on the shelf, and I will continue to read them.
