About This Novel

She walked into the sulfur smoke of Beitou and sang for more than ten years. There are no husbands and children in that song, but youthful rebellion, and a life that has been torn apart over and over again... A rebellious woman who has been singing for most of her life! She is my mother, who has had three names and three identities in her life - she made a living by picking up rags and was sold into a restaurant as a child; she was forced to marry at the age of fifteen; and she had to go to Nakasi, Beitou to sing in order to make a living for her mother's family - my mother's life is more exciting than an eight o'clock TV series. But to me, she's more like a commercial inserted between series. The only memories I have are of selling medicine and performing with my mother when I was little, or staying up late waiting for her to come back from Beitou singing. Apart from that, she is always a derelict mother in my heart.
