About This Novel

In the second half of 1943, newly married Zhu Shenghao and Song Qingru lived in Song Qingru's natal family in Changshu, Jiangsu Province for half a year. Because during the Song and Qing Dynasties, Ru's natal family had many collections, anthologies, comprehensive collections, and rhythms of poems by famous writers from the Tang, Song, and Qing Dynasties. Zhu Shenghao and Song Qingru, as a way to adjust their lives, systematically browsed through these poetry books together after meals or during breaks in translation. Based on their own opinions, they selected and compiled "400 Poems by Famous Writers in the Tang and Song Dynasties." Zhu Shenghao learned from Xia Chengtao, the modern and contemporary "poem master", and he is also very insightful in the selection and appreciation of Tang and Song poems. Supplemented by Junxiu's handwriting from the Song and Qing Dynasties, this anthology of poems has great charm in both content and form. Their son, Zhu Shanggang, and young scholar Xia Chunjin have compiled the poems based on Song Qingru's manuscripts in recent years, making this highly personal anthology of poetry that has gone through troubled times come to light again for the benefit of readers.
