About This Novel
During the War of Liberation, the Kuomintang army guarding a certain city in Northeast China was surrounded by the Northeast Democratic Alliance Forces. In order to win over Zhao Chongwu, the commander of the 369th Division of the Kuomintang's non-lineage force, the Democratic Coalition released the captured Zhao Chongwu's trusted group leader Zheng Hanchen and his wife, and promised to find their separated children on their behalf. Zheng Hanchen was deeply moved. But after he returned to the city, he was suspected by Qian Xiaozheng, chief of staff of the 203rd Division, a direct unit of the Kuomintang, which made him very disgusted. Soon, Mrs. Zheng was humiliated by a company commander of the 203rd Division. When the news came, Zheng Hanchen was furious and wanted to fight with the 203rd Division, but was stopped by Zhao Chongwu. Minister Jiang of the Democratic Alliance Army, thinking that Zheng Hanchen was sending his child away, went to the 369th Division's station in disguise and urged Zhao Chongwu to recognize the situation clearly and abandon the old and pursue the new. Although Zhao Chongwu had the intention to revolt, he had no determination.
