Thoughts after reading O. Henry's novels

Due to bad reading habits, it took me two or three weeks to finish the selected novels that I planned to read in two or three days, but this did not prevent me from feeling the purest artistic power between words - literary tension. On April 8, 2020, I read "The Violet of the Vanities" by Mr. Gibran, and was deeply touched by the literary tension exuded by Violet's broad and profound personality. The articles such as "The Gift of the Magi" and "The Pendulum" included in "O. Henry's Selected Short Stories" were once again immersed in such pure artistic power and intoxicated and could not help myself. Whether it is the blazing love between Della and Jim in "The Gift of the Magi"; or the expectations gap and behavioral habits shown by the male protagonist John Perkins in "The Pendulum", the author's metaphorical pendulum - one moment you regret it when you lose it, then you know how to cherish it, the next moment you get it and you feel indifferent and then fall into a cycle, all of them arouse our understanding and thinking about the truth. As O. Henry said: "The so-called life in this world is a combination of crying, sobbing, and tears turning into laughter." And his articles are like a small candlelight on a winter night, allowing you to open up a "teary smile" when you want to cry. Attached: 1. Reading level: inspection reading 2. I have never read any of O. Henry's books. It's a bit difficult to read, but thankfully it's only a short story. I read each article briefly, then come back and read it again. The author likes to put some statements first, and the specific explanations in the later text. This should make readers have a lot to think about, but it will affect readability. The United States is a young country. Do American literary works also feel like young literary works? Not too much too deep melancholy, not too many too complicated thoughts? The author's conception is very clever, and the ending is indeed needless to say. Some stories involving remote villages, farms or mountains leave a deeper impression and seem to be richer in content. Some of the thieves' stories are also interesting.
