About This Novel
The Kizil Thousand Buddha Cave is located more than 10 kilometers southwest of Baicheng County. It currently has 339 caves and is the largest group of grottoes in Xinjiang. However, the grottoes have been robbed by imperialist explorers since the late 19th century. The most serious excavation was by the German Lecoq from 1905 to 1909. He robbed at least more than 230 caves, cut up and stole about 128 boxes of Buddha statues and murals. Therefore, when Huang Wenbi arrived here in November 1928, the cave was empty. Huang Wenbi was the first Chinese archaeologist to arrive here. In July 2012, the author came here to trace the archaeological remains of Huang Wenbi.
