It has been a hundred years since the "respect for Confucius and scripture reading" was abolished in the early years of the Republic of China. The author considered that the previously compiled "History of Chinese Confucian Thought" was too professional and too in-depth, so he tried to write a set of classic popular lectures that combine accuracy and interest for the public. "Lectures on the Book of Songs" is one of them. This book selects a total of 57 representative poems from the Chinese style, Xiaoya, Daya, and Ode of the Book of Songs, translates them into modern vernacular poems, and intersperses many stories to explain them, hoping to arouse the interest of readers in learning the Book of Songs. The "Introduction" of about 20,000 words at the beginning of the book is actually a short history of the Book of Songs. Attached to the back of the book is "Confucius' Theory of Poetry", which is the latest unearthed pre-Qin poetic material. The version compiled in this manuscript is the only version in China that has been translated into English and spread in the West.
