This book provides a concise yet multi-layered journey through German history, from climate change and the consequent return of humans to Central Europe some 20,000 years ago, up to the present day. The author Andreas Farmer successfully combines the two narrative methods of "long-term history" and "event history" to analyze the birth of the old empire and span the Reformation and the Religious Wars to describe the German political and religious order after the Thirty Years' War. People followed the author through the era of the Great Revolution, the German Confederation, and the Second Reich until the 20th century, and saw many major events taking place in turn. They saw Germany successively experience the Weimar Republic, the "Third Reich", the division of the two Germanys, and the final reunification.
