About This Novel

"Mabele" is an amazing work. Generally, when you read it for the first time, you will find it strange that it is not like Xiao Hong's usual style. It does not write about women's experiences and does not use women as protagonists. As a female writer in China in the 1930s, Xiao Hong has attracted much attention in the literary world because of her unique literary talent and wandering life experience. Xiao Hong's works are unique in the delicacy and beauty of female writers because of their introspective and autobiographical style. However, her multi-faceted talents in literary creation have been unintentionally ignored. At the end of 1940, Xiao Hong mainly wrote two novels, "The Story of Hulan River" and "Mabele". The former won Xiao Hong numerous praises, but regarding the latter, literary critics were surprisingly silent. However, in terms of its literary value and creative level, "Mabele" is not inferior to "The Story of Hulan River" in any way. It is because of the humorous and spicy writing throughout the book that the writer's creative talent can be vividly displayed.
