Picking up Flowers in the Morning and Evening
by Lu Xun
About This Novel
As a "note of memories", this collection reflects the author Lu Xun's teenage life in many aspects, and vividly reflects the formation of his character and interests. The first seven chapters reflect his childhood life in his family and private school in Shaoxing, and the last three chapters describe his journey from his hometown to Nanjing, to Japan to study, and then back to China to teach. They reveal all the ugly and irrational phenomena in semi-feudal and semi-colonial society. They also reflect the difficult journey of aspiring young intellectuals in seeking light in the dark night of old China, and express the author's nostalgia for his former relatives, friends, and teachers. The anthology is mainly narrative, full of strong lyrical flavor, often mixed with discussion, so that lyricism, narrative and discussion are integrated into one, beautiful, harmonious, simple and touching. The works are poetic and picturesque, interspersed with humor and allegory from time to time; the images are vivid, the style is clear, and they have strong appeal.
