About This Novel

On August 20, 1945, former Kuomintang flight instructor Zhou Zhihe led pilot Gu Qing and six others to fly to Yan'an in a Japanese-made Nakajima "Type 97" twin-engine transport aircraft, joining the people's revolutionary camp and making a major contribution to the founding of the Air Force in New China. Since this first flying uprising, 159 Kuomintang air force and civil aviation personnel have flown 57 aircraft from the air to the liberated areas or the mainland of the motherland, choosing another life path for themselves. This choice has its profound historical roots and background, thus painting a vivid picture of the times for more than half a century. After the uprising, Gu Qing was sentenced for treason in October 1946 due to a navigation accident. After thirty-seven years of injustice, he was finally exonerated on March 22, 1984. Gu Qing passed away in May 2004.
