Memory Deviation
by Wu Chu
About This Novel
A strange "memory syndrome" breaks out in the coastal city of Y City. After the patient becomes ill, he will suffer from "memory deviation", a symptom that is difficult to explain scientifically. The so-called "memory deviation" means that in the patient's memory, many of the events he has experienced and seen in recent years are not his or her real experiences. For example, a freshman at Tsinghua University remembers that he was admitted to Peking University a year ago, and remembers fragments of his studies and life at Peking University during the year, or a newlywed couple remembers that they are still single. Moreover, these unreal short-term memories can be seamlessly connected with previous real memories. What is even more incredible is that the memory worlds in the brains of all patients suffering from "memory syndrome" are interconnected. For example, all patients "remember" that there was an earthquake in Province A last year (this did not happen in reality). Another example is that all patients who care about current affairs remember the temporary re-election of the US president last year (this did not happen in reality). These facts have led many people familiar with the matter to speculate that "the patient's memories come from a parallel world." The first protagonist of this article, Qin Wen, is a doctor in a mental hospital. Qin Wen received the first "memory syndrome" patient, Zhao Chunmei. Not only that, his brother Qin Wu also suffered from this mysterious "memory syndrome". In order to explore the origin of this memory disease, Qin Wen began to analyze and study the "memory world" in the brains of all patients and discovered the patterns. This "memory world" and the real world are "split" from the same mother world, just like the two forks of a river, and then drift apart under the influence of the butterfly effect. The "split" happened in late June three years ago. At that point in time, the 702 Research Institute located on the outskirts of City Y conducted an unprecedented exploratory particle collision experiment. Qin Wen suspected that it was the particle collision experiment that split the world into two. There was a mysterious passage between the two worlds, which led to the possibility of interchange of memories between people in the two worlds.
