About This Novel

The Chinese version of McNeill's "History of the World" has been belatedly released, being published in China for the first time nearly 50 years after its publication. This time, the Chinese version has been exclusively authorized by McNeil globally and is translated and published in accordance with the fourth revised edition. The book contains 109 wonderful charts, accompanied by a historical chronology marking the course of human civilization. It also recommends books for further reading. It also provides a new discussion on the major events in world history and civilization after 1976, making this masterpiece more complete in content and system. McNeil's "History of the World" is comprehensive in content and concise and fluent in writing, which is beyond the reach of ordinary textbooks. Whether you are an office worker, student teacher, business person, or government official, "World History" is a classic and reliable introductory book on world history.

Although the author believes that his writing is rigorous, he still looks at other civilizations from a Western perspective, and therefore belittles other civilizations, especially Chinese civilization. He believed that other civilizations were later influenced by Western civilization represented by Greek and Roman civilization, but in fact only the nearby Middle East, North Africa, and Europe were affected. India, China, and Southeast Asia were only slightly affected, and they were only affected in modern times. It can be said that the entire book is still "Western history", and the history of other places is only used to prove that the so-called Western civilization is more "powerful and advanced"! It simply does not have the fair, just, and uninvolved scholarly attitude of a historian that does not include personal likes and dislikes! In addition, the translator also did a poor job, the writing is not smooth and the language is convoluted. Give this book a negative review!

Excellent book by the author who is known as one of the ancestors of writing world history

Excellent introductory content to world history. The logic and chapter structure are very clear and organized, and there is an inevitable cross-influence of time and geography. Each subject (region/country/ethnicity/religion/language) seems to develop independently but is deeply affected by other factors. Sometimes it is either the other or assimilated, or even cross-influenced by multiple factors due to time changes, such as Jerusalem that I read earlier. It is surprising that history does not have the only authenticity. It is like a blind man touching an elephant. Wherever you touch, you will think what the world represents. Observe the development of the outside world more objectively, develop your inner world more actively, learn new knowledge, and stay humble. Understand history so that we can better face and accept changes in the present. Be happy with it. Mutual encouragement.

The translation is not smooth

The translation is not very smooth, which is a pity for such a good book.
