On December 9, 1937, the Japanese army launched a general attack on Nanjing. Yan Nanfei, commander of a certain battalion of the Nanjing Military Police, intercepted Sun Yuanliang, the "Flying General" of the 88th Division who escaped before the battle, and helped Han Xianyuan and Zhu Chi to hold on to the Yuhuatai position. In the end, Nanjing fell and suffered a massacre by the Japanese army, killing 300,000 soldiers and civilians.
