Ode to Joy
by Liu Cixin
About This Novel
This book is a short science fiction novel published by Liu Cixin (Da Liu), who is known as the first person in Chinese science fiction. Since some bad precedents at the beginning of this century, all countries have adopted a more pragmatic attitude towards the United Nations, taking it for granted as a tool to realize their own interests, and thus have their own more practical understanding of the United Nations Charter. Small and medium-sized countries have challenged the authority of the permanent members, and each permanent member believes that they should have greater authority in this organization. As a result, the United Nations has lost all authority... When this trend has developed for 10 years, all rescue efforts have failed. People unanimously believe that the United Nations and the idealism it represents are no longer applicable to today's world, and it is time to get rid of them.
