About This Novel
In the summer of 1966, the storm surged. Luo Zhongshu, a foreign language teacher at Sichuan Normal University, was beaten into a monster overnight and locked up in a cowshed. When the Red Guards were out fighting or holding criticism meetings, they ordered him to wear inferior suits, tie his ties crookedly, hang up the black card of "reactionary academic authority, foreign slave, traitor" and bow his head in public... History has made a big joke on people. In the 1930s and 1940s, Luo Zhongshu served as the dean of the School of Liberal Arts of West China Union University. He traveled to Europe many times and played an important role in the cultural exchange between the East and the West. However, he never wore western clothes. In his later years, Qian Mu wrote: "Zhongshu studied in England and heard that he wore royal robes instead of suits all year round. After returning from traveling in Europe and America, he still wore robes.
