About This Novel

"Siddhartha" is Hesse's masterpiece. Siddhartha, a young aristocratic young man from ancient India, was handsome and intelligent. In order to pursue peace of mind, he embarked on a journey of pursuing truth alone. He listened to the sermons of the masters, met the famous prostitute Kamala in the city, and became a wealthy businessman. The enjoyment of his soul and body reached its peak, but it made him tired of and despised himself to the extreme. He abandoned everything in the world and wanted to end his life. In that moment of despair, he heard the eternal voice of the river of life... After almost a lifetime of pursuit, Siddhartha experienced the harmony and unity of all things and the indestructible nature of all life, and finally integrated himself into the eternity of the moment. Meet yourself in the reflection of the river

Opening "Siddhartha" seems to follow him throughout his life: from the Brahmin's purification, to the ascetic asceticism, to the sinking of the world, and finally found peace by the river. Hesse tells us that truth cannot be expressed in words, but wisdom can only be experienced personally. Siddhartha tried to reach the other shore through abstinence or indulgence, but he was lost in the extremes. Only when he let go of his obsession and listened to the flowing of the river, did he understand that life is a harmonious whole, and that sinners and saints, pain and joy are one and the same. The river is not only a metaphor of time, but also a mirror of the heart, reflecting all the past and present. True awakening is not to escape from the world, but to fully embrace it and see eternity in every moment.

From this book, I learned the meaning and power of giving. At the same time, through the guidance of others, I learned to think in other people's perspective. We always focus on ourselves, but forget that people are social animals. When dealing with others, we must learn to think in other people's perspective and be full of kindness.
