The story begins in Monte Carlo. The heroine falls in love with the fashionable widower Maxim at first sight and quickly agrees to his sudden marriage proposal. At first I thought it was a sentimental Cinderella-style love story, but it was not. Then I thought it was a psychological sketch of an abandoned wife who gave up on herself, but it was not the same. In the end, it turned out to be such a suspense story that contains secrets and is intertwined with sin. I thought several times that I was getting close to the truth, but the author repeatedly exceeded my expectations. It is indeed a sincere work of the 20th century, coherent and fascinating.
I only like Rebecca, not the submissive heroine

Nice movie
I watched the movie version of Butterfly Dream before reading the original work. I found that the movie was basically faithful to the original work, with some minor changes made in the killing scene. The main character did not kill anyone in the movie. It seemed that I wanted him to be more perfect, but a little more cowardly. The original work is more consistent with historical records.
It can be regarded as a good match.
Rebecca was the daughter of a duke, and she was married to a shrewd and capable housekeeper. Elder Maxim did not say that Rebecca had brains, education, and beauty.
