This book analyzes the transformation of the system and political culture that occurred within six weeks (August 10-September 22, 1792) during the French Revolution. This period is known as the "First Reign of Terror". Based on original materials and parliamentary archives, and drawing on the concept of "state of exception" from legal philosopher Aganben, this book provides a detailed analysis of the transformation of the constitutional system into a reign of terror. About the author: Zhang Chi, a native of Huzhou, Zhejiang, has a PhD in history. He graduated from the History Department of Peking University in 2012. He currently teaches in the Department of History, School of Humanities, Zhejiang University, and his research direction is French history in the 18th century. He has translated "The Origin of the French Revolution", "Oxford History of the French Revolution" (co-translation), and "The Life of Robespierre" (co-translation), and published several papers in "World History", "Historical Theoretical Research", Annales historiques de la R4volution francaise and other publications.
