About This Novel

Frederick Jackson Turner (1861-1932), a famous American historian and an important founder of professional history in the United States. In 1893, Turner published "The Importance of the Frontier in American History", which proposed a brand-new explanation of the formation of American historical path from a native American perspective. In the subsequent 20th century, Turner's ideas continued to arouse heated discussions in the American intellectual community. His theories not only contributed new research fields, methods and concepts to American history, but also exerted influence outside the ivory tower, participating in the shaping of the American people's collective historical memory and the construction of the country's mainstream values. Based on Turner's published works and some of his unpublished manuscripts, this book selects American historical keywords such as "frontier", "region" and "West", trying to reproduce the historian's complete and authentic ideological world, explore the historical context and historiographic context in which these historical thoughts were nurtured, and interpret and comment on the academic value and practical significance of his historical thoughts from the standpoint of contemporary Chinese scholars.
