Over the decades, "Old Stories in the South of the City" has been reprinted numerous times in novel versions. In 1985, the book was adapted for the screen in mainland China. The movie "The Story of the Past in the South of the City" won many awards including the "Golden Rooster Award for Chinese Films", the Golden Eagle Medal for Best Feature Film at the 2nd Manila International Film Festival, and the Idea Award for Best Film at the 14th Belgrade International Children's Film Festival.
