"In Search of Lost Time" is too long, you can start with "Refutation of Sainte-Beuve" - the first book to understand Proust. Wang Daoqian's translation was published again after being out of print for many years. This book is neither an essay nor a novel, but a work of art. A piece of small madeleine cake brought out endless unconscious memories, and then the pen turned sharply. The author strongly criticizes the mechanical and erroneous criticism methods of the authoritative critic Saint-Beuve, and the resulting contempt and misunderstanding of all the literary geniuses in the French literary world at that time. The whole book contains both lyrical narrative and rational speculation. The two complement each other and reflect each other. The style of nearly half of the book is similar to or echoes that of "Reminiscence of Lost Time". It is a condensation of the essence of the author's thoughts and laid the first cornerstone for later textualist and structuralist criticism.
