About This Novel
"Stories Retold" is a collection of Hawthorne's short stories, first published in 1837. From this work, Hawthorne began to officially sign his name. The title of the book "The Story Retold" is taken from a line in William Shakespeare's historical play "King John": "Life is as dull as a story retold, which makes one's ears tired and drowsy." Edgar Allan Poe was very interested in "The Story Retold" and wrote many reviews, praising Hawthorne as a true genius. Nathaniel Hawthorne (July 4, 1804 - May 19, 1864), the greatest American novelist in the first half of the 19th century, graduated from Beaudoin College in Maine, USA. Hawthorne's works are rare classics in the history of world literature. His representative works include the short story collection "Moss on the Old House" and "The Story Retold", and the novels "The Scarlet Letter", "The Attic with the Seven Spires", "The Legend of Fortune Valley", "The Jade Figure" and so on.
