White Nights (selected Short Stories and Short Stories by Dostoevsky)
About This Novel
Dostoevsky's investigation of human nature is unprecedented, at least in terms of depth. He often touches the most extreme mental states and explores the upper and lower limits of the human soul. As a result, morbid psychology often appears in his works, especially those that are conscious or unconscious abnormal behaviors, and abnormal states that are close to coma and madness. The physical and mental pain of the protagonist in the novel is like a dying struggle, and its shocking effect is unmatched by other writers.

A full minute of joy - review of "White Night"
Reading "White Night", one has the illusion of being burdened with the burdens of middle age but accidentally running into the dreams of youth. Beautiful and melancholy, melancholy and beautiful. There are some magical nights that only young people can experience. Certain works can probably only be written when one is young, because the heart has not been forced to grow a deep callus in order to resist reality, so it still maintains the original naive sensitivity, the original simplicity and fragility, and the original grand innocence. If we follow geography and divide the works into mountain series, plain series, and abyss series according to the human dimension presented in the works, then what the Russian writer Dostoyevsky provides to mankind is probably the abyss within the abyss. "A cruel genius who tortures the human soul." Mr. Lu Xun said of Dostoyevsky. "The brightest and most poetic", "White Night" is so stamped among the spiritual wealth left by Dostoevsky. The character clues in "White Night" are extremely simple. An unknown dreamer, a 17-year-old girl Nastenka. As well as a few key characters that are sparsely written, the tenant, Grandma Nastenka, and the maid Matrona. Its narrative plot is also extremely simple. On a section of embankment in Petersburg, two people met by chance in a dream-like four nights, got to know each other, made a covenant, and then woke up from the dream. Toward awakening, toward independence, and to realize the budding self deep inside, this is the growth trajectory of the young girl Nastenka. The Dreamer and Nastenka spent four nights together on the Petersburg Embankment. On the first night, we met by chance and made an appointment. On the second night, they told each other about their lives, the dreamer talked about his life that "lacked real life", and Nastenka talked about the one-year reunion appointment with the tenants when they were separated. On the third night, the dreamer restrained and tolerated his emotions and helped Nastenka wait for news about her sweetheart's tenant. The fourth night passed by like the brightest shooting star, and before the end, it reached a dazzling highlight moment. Nastenka thought that the tenant would never appear again. Out of disappointment and frustration, as well as discovery and gratitude, she decided to live with the dreamer. The two of them had talked about the future like children. "Look up to the sky, Nastenka, look! It will be a good weather tomorrow; what a blue sky, what a beautiful moon! Look: this yellow cloud is about to cover the moon, look, look..." At that moment, the dreamer called Nastenka beside him to look at the scenery on the horizon. It was because he had touched real life, real love, and real happiness in his heart. However, at the end of the minute, the tenant appeared. As a result, the budding love between the dreamer and Nastenka immediately disappeared from existence, as if nothing had ever happened. After four white nights, the dreamer could only return to his residence and continue his former life of lackluster poverty with only the maid Matrona coming in and out and clinking glasses and plates. Sad? Are you sorry? Is it a pity? Maybe, there are some. "It doesn't matter if you are alone. As long as you love someone from the bottom of your heart, your life will be saved. Even if you can't live with him." I think of Haruki Murakami's words. Regardless of the direction of one's subjective will and emotions, there is often only one ending, and sometimes it is a seemingly fateful one. There are always melancholy guests in the world. Suddenly I felt that these sighs were unnecessary. Being able to have such a clear and bright love of life, such a peaceful and clean farewell, such a moment is a kind of illumination for life. Perhaps, it is enough for a person to enjoy his life slowly in the future. You know, it is a grand collection of joy in life, a full minute of joy!
A brief review
The article of this length is composed of several stories. There is the seemingly noble gentleman who married the little girl when the girl came of age for a dowry of hundreds of thousands of rubles. The parents of the child used a large dowry to marry the child to respectability and so-called nobility, but did not know how to shape a future for the girl and pushed the child into a deep pit with their own hands. A young man with a physical disability, a grateful heart, extremely happy, and an act of repaying his kindness, is entangled and collapsed because he feels unworthy of what his benefactor has entrusted him to do. There are people who are addicted to alcohol and rely on friends to take them in. They stay at their friends' houses for food and accommodation, but because of their alcohol addiction, they steal their friends' clothes in exchange for alcohol. Some people feel that society is ugly and unbearable, and want to end their lives, but are awakened by dreams and preach. The article is not long, but the description of inner activities is profound. It is worth reading!
Profound, profound
After listening to the teacher's introduction to the story, I became very interested in it! How is the contradiction between the spiritual world and material reality of the little people manifested!
Instructions for Humanity
I really like absurd dreams, the feeling of powerlessness and despair that a person feels when faced with such social ideology, but in the end he chooses to tolerate that ideology while adhering to the truth of his own personality. Such an attitude toward the current ideology and a precise understanding of human nature are displayed through a literary work. The author is really talented and likes the works of Dostoevsky very much. He also likes the philosophical qualities in the works of Russian writers.
While reading and experiencing it, I felt that the charm was dull. Then I read the book review and felt that it was very impressive, and it hit me to the bone!
