About This Novel
The novel mainly tells the story of "Ku Wenxuan", a descendant of a martyr. During the Cultural Revolution, his title as a martyr was questioned by many, so he cut off his penis after being accused of having style problems. In order for his father who left the river bank to be together with his grandmother's monument forever, Ku Wenxuan's son Ku Dongliang carried the monument symbolizing the glory of history onto the boat. Amid the cries of criticism from people on the shore, Ku Wenxuan threw himself into the river and committed suicide. The story shows the absurd fate of father and son Ku Wenxuan and Ku Dongliang, as well as the humbleness and tenacity of life.

The ups and downs of the revolutionary martyrs, their lives rise and fall with the river. From the shore to the ship, from the ship to the shore, Dongliang's helplessness, sorrow, shame, and even anger are like a tight circle of shackles, making people feel suffocated and heavy. The characters in the book are real but illusory, hateful and pitiful. Like all kinds of people living around us, even though the times are different, the bad deeds of human nature can be seen clearly!
I felt very depressed after reading the whole story. The relationship between father and son, the rebellious troubles of youth, the expectation of love, and the politics of that era. Dongliang's every impulse and every insult kept pushing him. In the end, the despair of rushing back to the ship while carrying the stone tablet... Many times I really wanted to cry without tears. I was so tired after reading it.
Online novels about ten years are rare and quite good.
Isn't the author so brave that he didn't have his water meter checked? But the book is pretty good, after reading a few pictures...
