About This Novel

"Grasshopper" depicts the rural life in the Huanghuai region in the first half of the 20th century. This is a period when the old system has collapsed and the new system and new culture have not yet taken shape. The social life of the lower class has shown many special phenomena, such as gangsterism, the implementation of the new laws of the Republic of China, the impact of the influx of urban industrial products on traditional rural life, the demise of the gentry society, etc. Out of fear of the locust plague, the locals built a temple for the so-called "grasshopper god". The residents around the small temple are ordinary farmers. They destroy themselves like weeds, but each has their own characteristics and survival instincts that make these legends at the bottom of society endless. Social changes, the emergence of new ideas, the game of various political forces, the truth, goodness, beauty, falsehood, evil and ugliness in human nature have all appeared one after another, writing a colorful and bloody local history and humanities picture.
