About This Novel
The hero of this story is a young man who enlists in the American Civil War hoping to become a hero. But since he was participating in the battle for the first time, he also had fears and various complex psychology in his heart. So when the battle started he was so frightened that he deserted and left the legion. After the battle was over, he returned and saw brutal scenes of casualties among troops along the way. He felt guilty and was deeply afraid that his cowardly behavior would be discovered by his comrades. Later, he was accidentally hit on the head by a soldier while escaping. When he returned to his company, he lied that he had been injured while fighting on the front line. When his companions saw the wound on his head - the red medal of valor - they praised him as a hero. He didn't dare to tell the truth and felt ashamed inside. After intense inner conflict and struggle, he determined to bravely participate in the battle and become a real man. He killed the enemy bravely and finally became a hero who was appreciated by everyone.
