About This Novel
At the beginning of Natsume Soseki's later trilogy, rational life is still full of flaws. "After the Vernal Equinox" is a novel by Natsume Soseki. It was serialized in the "Asahi Shimbun" from January to April 1912, and was later compiled into a book. It describes the newly graduated Keitaro who was running around for a job, and later obtained the position with the help of his friend Suunaga. As a result, he became acquainted with Suunaga, Suunaga's uncle, and his cousin Chiyoko. He watched the love troubles between Suunaga, who was strongly self-aware and regarded himself as a philosopher, and his passionate and naive cousin Chiyoko. It describes the state of Japanese intellectual circles after the Meiji Restoration and the confusion and hesitation of intellectuals.
