About This Novel
Bob Slocum's life exemplifies the American Dream. He is a middle-level manager in a large company, a husband and father of three children in a middle-class family, living a prosperous life and having a steady stream of lovers. His life is stable and orderly, he follows the rules, and society demands that he be happy-or at least pretend to be. But the pretense is getting harder and harder. Slocum's heart was filled with unhappiness, which gradually deteriorated into desolation and fear, until one day, something happened.
