In 1900, the Irishman Roger Casement was appointed as the British Consul in Africa to Boma. He investigated the exploitation and atrocities of the indigenous people by Belgian rubber merchants and wrote the "Report on the Congo", which shocked the Western world. He was awarded the St. Michael and Saint Michel by King Edward VII of England. Double Medal of St. George; in 1906, Roger was appointed as the British Consul in Santos, Brazil. He investigated the exploitation and atrocities of the indigenous people by the British Rubber Company and wrote the "Report on Putumayo", which once again shocked the West. There are 15 chapters in the book: odd-numbered chapters describe Roger's years in prison, the last three months of his life; even-numbered chapters tell the story of his life's adventures.
