Volume 1 is "Emperor Qianlong: The First Reveal of His Splendor". Yongzheng died suddenly, and Qianlong succeeded to the throne. He was determined to usher in the heyday of the Qing Dynasty. He advocated "governing with leniency", corrected the harsh punishments of the previous dynasty, and vindicated wrongful convictions, so that victims of the previous dynasty such as Yang Mingshi, Shi Yizhi, Sun Jiagan, and Zhang Zhao were able to recover, be re-awarded important positions, and continue to serve the court.
