About This Novel

On the bank of the Wenshui River in Jishui County in central Jiangxi, there is a towering mountain, like a huge brush, with its peak reaching into the clouds and pointing straight into the blue sky. The locals call it Wenfeng Mountain. According to legend, during the Three Kingdoms period, Guan Yunchang was defeated in Maicheng and was named Emperor Guanwu by the Jade Emperor after his death. On the day when he was conferred immortality, he passed by Jishui County. Guan Yunchang was attracted by the majesty of Wenfeng Mountain. He sat on a red rabbit horse and overlooked the mountain scenery. He didn't expect to catch up with the monks of Longhua Temple in Taiping Mountain in the east of the city to ring the bell. The mount was startled by the loud ringing of the bell and jumped straight into the sky. Guan Yunchang was unprepared and dropped his whip. The riding whip fell straight down from the clouds and landed on a large bluestone on the top of Wenfeng Mountain. There was a loud "bang" sound, and the bluestone cracked into two pieces. The riding whip was inserted into the stone, and it instantly grew into a green bamboo.
